3D printing face shields for the NHS

Fathom is proud to have joined the growing band of architectural practices putting our 3D printers to good use and helping by printing PPE for the NHS. We’ve been working with 3D Crowd, an 8000-strong volunteer group who, together, last week delivered over 39,000 face shields to over 90 NHS Trusts!

How it works: an open-source pattern has been developed directly with the NHS for the 3D printer to manufacture plastic headsets. A product specification and simple, downloadable instructions are available on the website. Once printed, the headsets are then delivered to distribution hubs, fitted with visors, sterilised, and distributed to hospitals where the greatest shortages have been identified by the NHS.
